hereā€™s part 2ļøāƒ£ on Tuesdayā€™s article about money dysmorphia, but thursday buzz edition because it flows more like a stream of consciousness šŸ“ 

letā€™s do a quick refresher:

  • money dysmorphia is a state of being deeply dissatisfied with one's financial situation despite objective evidence and can manifest in a lot of ways, like spending more than one can afford or avoiding spending altogether.

  • keeping up with the joneses: social media contributes to money dysmorphia by creating unrealistic expectations and fostering a culture of comparison. Our constant exposure to curated content can lead us to feel inadequate and feel like we need to optimize every part of our lives to feel purpose and happiness. butā€¦ social media has only expanded our reach. And keeping up with the joneses exists in the real world too, heck it originated because humans are social beings.

  • but fear not! part 1 of overcoming money dysmorphia is taking a break from social media: I know social media can be a powerful tool to foster community, so take a step back and let it help you. Remove the apps / limit screen-time for a week, figure out what youā€™re looking for right now, and come back with a new, fine-tuned lens of what you want to see in the virtual world.

But Sneha, we live in the digital age, and like you said, weā€™re social beings! S.O.S.: how can we exist amongst society and fight money dysmorphia?
